The book starts of with an introduction, explaining her reason for writing this book “stories like mine have remained unheard, as they do not fit neatly with prevailing stereotypes.” Then the first two chapters follow her first meeting when she was 19. It’s divided into eight parts, with each part comprising of three chapters. It was a good intention but does she succeed? She wanted to show a more upbeat side of being Asian British, one that doesn’t get shown often. In an interview with The Guardian (called Hot Dates and Headscarves (2009) if you’re interested) Shelina said she wrote this memoir as a response to all those misery memoirs she would see in bookshops that depicted burqa clad women, with kohl-rimmed eyes peeping out, and a camel in the background. It was published in 2009, but I only learnt about it recently. Love in a headscarf: Muslim Woman Seeks the One is a memoir by Shelina Zahra Janmohamed. Love in a headscarf: Muslim Woman Seeks the One
